Buttermere visit Buttermere!

Year 4 had a wonderful two days visiting Buttermere and Derwent Water in the Lake District. They stayed at the Buttermere Youth Hostel (YHA) and had a great time exploring the locality. Buttermere is a very different place to Petteril Bank and Carlisle. The children enjoyed being in the great outdoors. They walked the full distance around the lake, striding through thick woodlands, passing flowing rivers and waterfalls, under great big mountains and even through a dark cave tunnel!

On the second day, they journeyed up the incredibly steep Honister pass, stopping off at the slate mine for a quick nosey. After this, they made their way on through to the shores of Derwent water for a canoeing lesson. Everybody mane=aged to get the hang of it eventually, enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery of the lake and surrounding hills.
